Jenna Ortega has ended Johnny Depp in the funniest way possible.
The Wednesday star was randomly romantically linked to Depp back in 2023. They’ve got an age gap of 40 years, so the rumour certainly raised eyebrows.
During one of BuzzFeed’s puppy interviews, she was asked to spill the craziest rumour she’d ever heard about herself.
“Probably that I was in a serious relationship with Johnny Depp and I wanted everybody to ‘leave us alone’!” she exclaimed.
“It’s so insane to me like I never spoke on that, I never said anything like that,” she added, saying she found the rumours “pretty hilarious”.
“I was on set with Richard E. Grant and he came up to me and he just said, ‘Oh, so you and Johnny?’. I laughed because I don’t know that person.”

Back in 2023, Depp’s representative issued a statement denying the rumours.
“Mr. Depp has no personal or professional relationship with Ms. Ortega whatsoever. He has never met her or spoken to her. He is not involved in any project with her, nor does he intend to be,” it said.
“He is appalled by these baseless and malicious rumours that are intended to harm his reputation and career.”
Daily Mail claimed that Ortega took to Instagram to deny the rumours before deleting her post.
“I can’t even laugh. I have never met or worked with Johnny Depp in my life. Please stop spreading lies and leave us alone,” she allegedly wrote.

How did the Jenna Ortega and Johnny Depp romance rumour start?
It seems like the rumour started in May 2023, when gossip account Deuxmoi shared a tip about Ortega and Depp working together. At the time, people falsely assumed it was for Ortega’s upcoming movie Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
“Jenna Ortega and Johnny Depp spotted filming as part of a big production in Shoreditch. They closed off the road for a week but only filming for a couple of days out of that. There was also a huge poster of Catherine O’Hara outside at one point, but sadly didn’t see her,” the tip read.
Filming for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice started in the UK in May 2023, so the timeline matches. Depp hasn’t been announced as a cast member for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, but there’s been a bunch of fan speculation that he’ll have a cameo. It’s directed by long-time Depp collaborator Tim Burton, and Depp liked a post of the trailer on Instagram.

After Depp’s ex-wife Amber Heard alleged he had been abusive, he was dropped from some projects including Disney’s Pirates Of The Caribbean 6 and Warner Bros’ Fantastic Beast franchise, so I’m not sure they’d want to risk such a big blockbuster for a Depp cameo.
Burton is open to working with Depp again in the future, though, and told ComicBook.com: “If the right thing was around sure… I always would like to try it with him or anybody to kind of go; what is the part? What is the thing? And then is it the right thing, is it the right character? I take things on [that] basis and no others.”
However, seeing as Ortega says she’s never met the man, I’m quietly confident we won’t be seeing Depp pop up in the movie.
