With another month comes yet another Netflix original series, as the streaming giant is gearing up to release Wednesday, an exciting and original spin-off to The Addams Family.
Co-created and directed by legendary Hollwood auteur Tim Burton – the brain behind Edward Scissorhands, The Nightmare Before Christmas and Sleepy Hollow – this supernatural coming-of-age series promises to be just the ticket for lovers of the macabre.
Here, we break down everything you need to know about Netflix’s Wednesday.

What is it about?
Netflix’s synopsis for the show teases “a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery” charting the young Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega) after she is expelled from her “normal” high school over an incident involving piranhas. When she is sent to Nevermore Academy – a boarding school for outcasts, freaks and monsters – the raven-haired teen attempts to master her emerging psychic ability and thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorised the local town.
Elsewhere on her to-do list, Wednesday attempts to solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago, while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.
Who are the cast and crew?
Brought to us by writer-producer duo Alfred Gough and Miles Millar (Smallville, Spider-Man 2 ) and “from the imagination of” Tim Burton, Wednesday boasts an ensemble cast of Hollywood stars and up-and-coming actors. The titular character is played by 20-year-old Jenna Ortega, who is making a name for herself since starring in Scream (2022) and 70s-style slasher film X.
The roles of the other Addams family members are filled by Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán as Morticia and Gomez Addams respectively, while Wednesday’s brother Pugsley is played by newcomer Isaac Ordonez. The bald and ghostly-pale Uncle Fester is played by Saturday Night Live and Portlandia funnyman Fred Armisen.

Other cast members include Romanian actor George Burcea as the Addams’ freakishly tall butler, Lurch, and Game of Thrones’ Gwendoline Christie as Nevermore Principal Larissa Weems. The show’s trailer also teases a role for Christina Ricci, who famously played Wednesday in 1991’s The Addams Family and its 1993 sequel Addams Family Values.
The show’s score is composed by Tim Burton’s frequent collaborator Danny Elfman – who composed the music for countless blockbusters including Batman, Edward Scissorhands and The Nightmare Before Christmas – which will no doubt ensure the series has a typically Burtonesque tone.
When is Wednesday released?
All eight episodes of Wednesday drop on Netflix on Wednesday, November 23 at 8am.
