Evil Scots pensioner who murdered ex dies in jail without revealing where he hid her body
A Scots pensioner who brutally murdered his ex-girlfriend in Canada has died in prison without revealing the location of her body. Andrew Watson, 84, bludgeoned Lise Fredette to death with a shovel before putting her corpse in his car and dumping it at an unknown location.
The 74-year-old's body has never been found and Watson refused to disclose her whereabouts. Watson, originally from Glasgow, was found guilty of murder by a jury in Ontario in April 2017 and was given a life sentence with no possibility of parole for 25 years.
Prison authorities said he died of "apparent natural causes" on Saturday at the Millhaven Institution in Ontario. At Watson's trial, prosecutors told jurors that he was a "jilted and controlling" ex-boyfriend and he had killed Miss Fredette as the "final act of harassing her".
He was arrested ten days after the grandmother was last seen leaving her job at Walmart on November 12, 2014. Her glasses and keys were found next to her car at home and there was blood in her driveway.
Social worker who visited Glasgow flat where toddler starved to death recommended 'no further action'
A social worker recommended no further action should be taken against a mum who kept her children in a 'untidy' flat. Martin Cullen, 46, made the submission to seniors after visiting Margaret Wade, 41, at her flat in Glasgow's Sighthill in July 2014.
His check-up with a health visitor was arranged after Irene Soley earlier found two-year-old Lauren Wade playing with a "poisonous" battery in the untidy property. Mr Cullen and Mrs Soley found the property to be in a "neat and tidy" condition after their visit. Mr Soley stated that she had "no reason" to up Lauren's health visitor safe guards from low to needing "attention."
Mr Cullen claimed that he attended the flat on short notice due to staffing issues. Lauren died eight months later after she was left to starve to death by mum Margaret Wade, 41, and Marie Sweeney, 40.
A judge heard how Lauren went without proper food or care for months and was riddled with thousands of head lice. A "skinny and dirty" Lauren had a sodden nappy, bald patches and thousands of head lice.
A post mortem revealed the toddler had been the victim of “severe neglect”. Wade and Sweeney were jailed in 2019 for six years and four months each after pleading guilty to neglecting the toddler between June 2014 and March 2015.
Scots WAG chased by police while driving car with sparks flying off shredded tyres
A Scots WAG who was seen driving with sparks flying off her shredded tyres during a police chase has been told her conduct was "one of the worst examples of dangerous driving" a sheriff has ever seen. Jo-Hannah Eardley - partner of Livingston FC ace Cristian Montano - repeatedly struck a central reservation and drove her Smart car in the dark with no headlights in Edinburgh earlier this year.
Eardley, 29, drove at high speeds along the city's Glasgow Road with fuel leaking from her vehicle before officers eventually traced the abandoned motor near to her home. Police were said to have been forced to call out the fire service for fear of the car bursting into flames.
The finance worker pleaded guilty to a charge of dangerous driving when she appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last month and was back for sentencing today. Sheriff Peter McCormack said: "I take into account this is your first conviction and hopefully it will be your last. However I have to say this is one of the worst examples of dangerous driving I have come across particularly with your tyres shredding off and your wheels were sparking with your car leaking petrol.
"A petrol leak and a spark had the potential for an explosion. You are probably too young to have seen the film Die Hard 2 but if you see that film you will see what happens to the aircraft when it was leaking fuel. This could have caused death or horrendous burns to you or others."
Man who lives on vegetable juice stopped using oven after Universal Credit was cut
A former NHS worker who is living on cartons of vegetable juice and refusing to use his oven due to the rising cost of living has slammed the Job Centre for taking £88 off his benefits. Errol Livingstone, who used to work in recruitment and as a NHS call handler, is currently claiming Universal Credit.
The 57-year-old, said he has been sanctioned for not attending a course about interview techniques. He claims he was under the impression that he didn’t have to attend due to his experience in recruitment and was later told he should have been there.
He will now have £11 per day for eight days, a total of £88, deducted from his next monthly payment of £319.84. Errol, from Newcastle, said he is already struggling to pay his bills and purchase food on the money which he receives. He said he has, at times, lived on cartons of pure vegetable juice, fresh orange juice and fruit.
He said he also has to take food from his elderly mother and search the supermarket shelves for reduced items. Errol, who is fighting to get his money restored, told Chronicle Live : “Sometimes I feel like giving up. I feel they are always making excuses to take the money away from me. I have lost trust with them. I have worked in recruitment. I could probably do their job!
“I don’t think the Government has got an understanding of what it’s all about and what it’s like to survive. They haven’t got a clue what people have to go through if they lose a job or they are made redundant. They’re not helping people at all, they are making it worse all the time. I don’t think they understand the extent of how people are living."
Scots couple win war to cut down neighbours' 22ft trees that left home 'like Black Hole of Calcutta'
A Scots couple who claimed their neighbour's 22ft trees left parts of their home like 'the Black Hole of Calcutta' have won a battle to have them chopped. Nick and Morag Bishop insisted their lives were being ruined by a row of leylandii belonging to David and June Turso in leafy Bearsden, near Glasgow.
The Bishops daughter Morag claimed her parent's bathroom resembled ' the Black Hole of Calcutta ' and they were required to have lights switched on throughout the year. The couple turned to their local council under high hedge legislation in a bid to have the trees reduced in height.
The Tursos argued there was no loss of light and the trees were a haven for wildlife and should not be touched but East Dunbartonshire Council officials ordered the trees be chopped down to 6.5ft. The Tursos appealed the decision to the Scottish Government but have now failed to overturn it.
