When it comes to weddings, there are certain etiquette rules that guest should follow throughout the day - for instance, not wearing white unless you're the bride.
There also might be certain colours that guests are asked to avoid, so as not to be mistaken for a member of the bridal party.
But otherwise, people usually can make their own minds up about what they wear.
One woman recently thought she'd found the perfect outfit for her friend's upcoming nuptials - but her mother had reservations about it.
The unnamed wedding guest took to Mumsnet to share a snap of the pink dress from Boohoo that was reduced to £16 and asked for opinions on whether or not it was ok to wear to the special occasion.

Her post reads: "Going to a wedding in a couple weeks. Saw a gorgeous bardot dress, loved it, fiancé loved it so ordered it and I love it in real life too.
"However I sent a pic to my mum who just texted back 'I don't like it for a wedding' then didn't say why or anymore? Am I breaking some kind of etiquette? Clueless about these things.
"Most weddings I've been to I've been the bridesmaid or the bride and don't have a clue how guests dressed. I do remember a wedding a few years back where I wore a red polka dot dress. Don't know if that was breaking any etiquette rules.
"I do believe that mother likes that dress though! I will attach a pic of the dress!"
More than 400 people have since responded to the post, with many agreeing with the woman's mother that the dress isn't quite right for a wedding.
One person said: "It's a bit informal. Where is the wedding? Shoulders should be covered in a church generally."
Another replied: "I'm a great believer in women dressing however they like, but this isn't really wedding attire. It's a nice dress but more suited to a beach holiday than a formal occasion."
A third thought: "Definitely not suitable for a wedding but great in the summer on the beach."
Someone else added: "Looks like a beach cover up."
