Wedding day horror as 10 guests killed after bus flips over in crash

A dream wedding ended in disaster after a bus taking attendees home crashed, killing 10 guests while 25 others were brought to hospital.

Those on board were 'presumably returning to their accommodation' when the bus flipped due to heavy fog in Hunter Valley, New South Wales, Australia, police stated, The Mirror reports.

The circumstances around the Sunday evening crash are being investigated, while the 58-year-old bus driver has been arrested for reckless endangerment.

NSW Police Acting Assistant Commissioner Tracy Chapman said the number of dead could increase, adding that two of those in hospital were airlifted from the scene, as the bus landed on its side.

"He's under arrest. He's been the driver of a motor vehicle collision where there have been fatal injuries and there will be charges pending," she said, speaking of the driver.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese described the situation as "so cruel, so sad and so unfair" for such a "joyous day in a beautiful place like that to end with such terrible loss of life".

He said: "People hire a bus for weddings in order to keep their guests safe, and that just adds to the unimaginable nature of this tragedy."

A statement by NSW Police read: "Family and friends of a person who may have been on board the bus are urged to contact Cessnock Police Station."
