Weatherman named Andrew Tate hit with online abuse meant for misogynistic kickboxer

A weatherman has found himself on the receiving end of a tirade of online abuse as he shares the same name as misogynistic kickboxer Andrew Tate.

Following a string of controversial comments about women, Tate has now hit the headlines for being banned from TikTok, Facebook and Instagram.

Many people angered by his extreme views have hit out online, but they have targeted the wrong person - an innocent weatherman working for the KLTV network in Texas.

And the TV presenter has received a stream of abusive comments with the name Andrew Tate trending on social media.

Some of his tweets about the weather in Texas have resulted in a string of comments from both sides of the opinion divide with many seething about the kickboxer while others backing him.

One person tweeted: “What a confusing time it must be for this random local weatherman named Andrew Tate.”

While a work colleague of the weatherman wrote: “I work at this news station and this is horrible because (this) Andrew is the nicest guy you’ll ever meet.”

It got so bad that the weather forecaster felt it necessary to clarify who he really was with a tweet using the viral “girl shouting at boy” meme.

He captioned it: “Andrew Tate KLTV (‘unfortunate weather reporter) is not Andrew Tate the boxer from TikTok.”

Tate the kickboxer was banned from TikTok who claimed he had violated their terms which bars content which "attacks, threatens, incites violence against, or otherwise dehumanizes an individual or a group".

In his statement last week, Tate claimed he was receiving thousands of death threats every day, and said: "The media is spinning a false image of me, on repeat, and Instagram bowing to pressure is a massive shame. I will always have millions of fans around the world and my platform would be a beacon of light, teaching people of all genders and races how to respect one another for years to come. Now these fans can not learn important lessons of love. Why?

The kickboxer has expressed misogynistic views (@cobratate/INSTAGRAM)

"In time, the world will learn the true nature of my heart. I am a strictly religious man who believes god wants the truth to prevail. I have nothing but positivity to spread regarding all PEOPLE, whether male OR female, and this has been reflected in all of my recent messaging and posts.

"I am a mixed race man raised by a single mother. I suffered all of the disadvantages of the old world. I am a fantastic role model for all people, both male and female. The outpouring of support for me has been immense. I will continue my charitable acts as it is true to my nature, in time the world will understand to see beyond what they're told, to think for themselves and not believe everything they read. I am genuinely innocent. But I truly believe god will prevail."
