Weather warnings remain in place this morning as 'fairly unsettled' conditions expected throughout the week

Conditions are set to remain wet and windy this morning, with a number of weather warnings still in place around the country.

It will clear up later today, but "fairly unsettled" conditions are expected throughout the rest of the week.

“Fresh to strong and gusty” winds will continue this morning and will be strongest along the Atlantic coastal counties where a warning is in place.

A Status Yellow weather warning is in place in Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Donegal, Galway, Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim until midday today. Gusts reaching up to 90 to 110km/h are expected in places, and could be even higher in “coasts and exposed areas”.

“Disruption is expected,” Met Eireann said.

A gale warning is also in place until 5pm on Monday for all coasts of Ireland and the Irish Sea.

The rain will clear later today, and the national forecaster is expecting to see some sun in places. They said: “Scattered showers will also gradually clear northwards, becoming mainly dry with good spells of sunshine.”

Temperatures will reach highs of twelve and fifteen degrees during the day but will drop to between 0 and 5 tonight. Conditions should remain “mainly dry”.

Met Eireann said: “Milder in parts of the south and southwest with cloudier conditions developing along with freshening winds and patchy light rain or drizzle arriving towards morning.”

Despite a drier Tuesday, conditions will remain “fairly unsettled” as the week goes on.

Met Eireann’s Andrew Doran-Sherlock said: “Our weather will be fairly unsettled through the rest of the week and weekend. There will be a series of weather fronts moving up from the south, bringing spells of rain.”

The south will be hit hardest, with the driest conditions expected in the north.

Doran-Sherlock also warned people to “take care” amid the wild weather this morning.

This comes after atrocious weather conditions on Sunday, which saw flooding in the likes of Cork and Kerry.
