Lanarkshire residents will bask in the summer sun this weekend as temperatures are set to soar.
The Met Office is warning of an extreme heatwave across the UK, with the weather in Lanarkshire set to reach up to 24 degrees over the 'Glasgow Fair' weekend.
But, looking ahead to next week's temperatures the sunshine will continue with highs of 26 and 27 degrees respectively on Monday and Tuesday.
The weather will then take a turn on Wednesday, although temperatures still look to be in the 20s coupled with thundery showers and a light breeze.
Towards the end of next week Lanarkshire is looking at temperatures of around 18/19 degrees.
Dan Harris from the Met Office said: “Maximum temperatures have been well above average almost everywhere in the UK this week.
"Following a return to nearer average, locally rather cool temperatures over the next few days, the warm weather looks likely to steadily ramp up once again this weekend, probably peaking early next week."
People are being reminded to wear sunscreen, drink plenty of fluids and avoid excess alcohol, if going outdoors use cool spaces considerately, wear a hat, never leave anyone in a closed, parked vehicle, especially infants, young children or animals and try to keep out of the sun between 11am to 3pm, when the UV rays are strongest.
