After a mostly fine and dry Easter weekend the weather is set to become far more unsettled across Wales in the coming days. Most people have enjoyed sunny spells over Good Friday, Easter Saturday and Easter Sunday, while Easter Monday is mainly dry with the odd outbreak of showers.
However, from Tuesday onwards the spring-like weather we’ve been enjoying over the last few days will seem like a distant memory as the forecast takes a turn for the worst. From Tuesday afternoon a yellow warning for wind comes into place across the whole of Wales. It has not been named yet, but Welsh forecaster Derek Brockway said it could become the first named storm of the season - Storm Antoni.
According to the Met Office: “A period of strong winds bringing the potential for some disruption on Tuesday and Wednesday.” It added that people should expect: “Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely, probably some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer, delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely, some short term loss of power and other services is possible. It’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves.”

That warning is in place until 6am on Wednesday, but then a further yellow warning for wind comes into force for the rest of the day, which mainly affects the south of England but also parts of south west Wales. Wet weather is also likely on Tuesday and Wednesday according to the Met Office, with a 90% chance of rain in Cardiff throughout Tuesday afternoon and for parts of Wednesday afternoon.
It’s the same story throughout most of Wales according to the forecast, with rain expected all afternoon on Tuesday in Tenby, and showers mixed with some sunshine on Wednesday. There are no weather warnings in place from Thursday onwards, with the wind calming down by then and light showers accompanying sunny spells. Friday will again be unsettled for most of Wales, with light rain in places and a gentle breeze, but things will hopefully pick up again on Saturday when, according to BBC Weather, Cardiff will bask in sunshine all day. And while next Sunday is expected to be overcast, fine and sunny weather is expected to return the following week with temperatures of 18°c.
