Parts of the UK could see temperatures drop as low as -7C this week, while London braces for a significant cooldown after a mild weekend.
The capital experienced a wet but warm Saturday and Sunday, with highs of 14C. However, the Met Office predicts that temperatures will dip into single digits in the coming days.
Monday is expected to be “largely dry and bright,” but a “cold and bright start” is forecast for Tuesday, with the possibility of some slow-clearing fog patches, according to the Met Office.
“Cloud and rain overnight, clearing to sunny spells Wednesday. Further rain overnight, clearing Thursday morning to bright spells,” the statement added.
BBC Weather has stated that Tuesday will see highs of 6C and Wednesday will also be chilly, topping out at 7C.
Honor Criswick of the Met Office added: “Much of next week looks likely to remain unsettled, especially for northern and western parts of the UK.
“However, there are some signals on the horizon that the weather for the following week could once again become more settled.”
While the scene is set to be ordinary enough in London, other parts of the country will see temperatures drop below freezing at different points.
No weather warnings have been given.
Becky Mitchell of the Met Office told Sky: "Temperatures on Monday could fall as low as about -7C in parts of rural Scotland overnight. That is likely to be the coldest night of the week.
"It will be quite wet and windy though, we will have various bands of rain coming in from the west, which could be heavy at times, and also very breezy across the whole country.
"The rain will be heavy in places, but we're not expecting any large amounts to cause any significant issues."
She added: "The temperatures this whole time will be around mid-single figures, so feeling pretty chilly. We will have some overnight frost as well, particularly on Monday night.”
