New weather maps suggest Nottingham could be hit heavily by snow next week as the Met Office warns the frosty weather will be 'widespread and persistent'. A calm weekend with clear skies will give way to a freezing start next week as a cold snap is forecast to sweep across the country, with Tuesday, (March 7) and Wednesday, (March 8) seeing the heaviest snow showers across the UK.
BBC weather forecasters are currently predicting snow showers could hit Nottinghamshire on Tuesday, March 7. According to the latest weather maps by WX Charts, two huge bands of snow are forecast to batter much of the UK at the beginning of next week.
Starting on Tuesday, a flurry of frosty weather is predicted to sweep down from the north of the country, settling over the capital at around 6pm. It comes as the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for snow and ice next week, as a northerly airflow is expected to bring some disruptive weather.
The national weather service has warned the snowfall will be 'widespread and persistent', with icy conditions expected to cause some travel disruption. Looking to the forecast for next week, temperatures will start high on Tuesday morning, reaching around 5C during the day. However, temperatures are expected to tail off.
Deputy Chief Meteorologist, Chris Almond, said: "Very cold air will spread across the UK from late on Sunday through early next week. This brings with it snow even to low levels in the north and east through Monday and Tuesday, and in excess of 10cm could accumulate, most likely on high ground in the north, but also settling for a time at lower levels.
"With freezing overnight temperatures and the risk of ice, there’s a risk of some travel disruption and wintry hazards are likely to persist through much of next week, even further south for a time, so keep an eye on the Met Office forecast for the latest information."
