An Irish weather expert has given a grim outlook for the next seven days as he warns people living in certain areas to “be aware.”
Alan O’Reilly, the man behind the popular ‘Carlow Weather’ Twitter account, says a “very unsettled spell” is expected over the coming days and will bring with it “stormy conditions and heavy rain.”
Taking to Twitter, he wrote: “Weather models showing very unsettled spell of weather over next 7 days with the risk of stormy conditions and heavy rain.

“One model (ECMWF) showing over 100mm over the 7 days and also risk of strong winds around Monday night/Tuesday. Those in areas prone to flooding be aware.”
This comes after Met Eireann published several warnings for Thursday and Friday as heavy rainfall and thunderstorms bring a risk of hazardous conditions to some counties.
There is a status orange rain warning in place for Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan, Tipperary, and Waterford from 11:00 pm tonight until 7:00 am on Friday morning.
The Met Office has a status yellow rain warning in place for Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Tyrone, and Derry.
However, this is in place from midnight tonight until 11:00 am on Friday.
It is therefore expected to be blustery tonight with rain becoming widespread, and heavy in places with the chance of embedded thunderstorms and flooding, especially in the east.
Rain will become confined to the north and east of the country later in the night and lowest temperatures will drop to 8 degrees in some areas.
Gales are also expected for a time along the eastern and southeastern coasts.
It’ll be a wet and blustery start in the north and east on Friday with heavy rain and some flooding - however, drier and clearer weather is expected in the south and west along with a few showers which will extend to all areas during the morning.
The remainder of the day will bring a mix of sunshine and scattered showers.
As for the next few days, the forecaster says: “Current indications suggest the weather remains unsettled for Bank Holiday Monday and early next week with further spells of rain or showers.
“It'll be windy at times and temperatures are expected to fall back a few degrees to the more seasonal average.”
