Ireland weather expert pinpoints arrival of heavy rain as 'heads up' issued

In some parts of Spain the mercury is hitting 44C, as the country records its first heatwave many people in Ireland are asking when the sun will shine again over here.

Throughout the week ahead, temperatures are set to remain high, even hitting up to 24C in some parts, all the while the rain is still set to bottle down, with Met Eireann predicting it will be "rather changeable with showers at times".

It isn’t just Met Eireann predicting the rain either. One weather expert, Alan O’Reilly, took to his Twitter page to give people a "heads up" about the weather on Wednesday, suggesting that at the beginning of the day, there will be some heavy rain.

In an update on his popular weather page, Carlow Weather, O’Reilly wrote: "Heads up for some heavy rain to start Wednesday."

Meanwhile, Tuesday is set to be slightly better but still raining, with the weather expert posting it will be "A soft morning with patchy rain and a cloudy damp day ahead with patchy rain on and off but humid and warm."

According to Met Eireann, Wednesday will begin with a band of rain moving east but by midday some sunny spells will break through while some isolated showers will rain down.

However, later in the afternoon, showers will become confined to Atlantic coastal counties and the majority of the dry weather will be in the southeast. A few showers are set to develop in the evening, but overall it will be clear and dry.

Met Eireann has predicted that Wednesday will have: "A wet start as a band of rain moves east of the country.

"By midday, however, good sunny spells will develop with isolated showers at times. Later in the afternoon the showers will become confined to Atlantic coastal counties with the best of the dry weather in the southeast. Highs of 16C to 21C in a moderate westerly breeze.

"In the evening, a few showers may linger along Atlantic coastal counties but there will be good clear and dry spells elsewhere. Westerly breezes will weaken overnight and be a little cooler than previous nights with lows of 8C to 11C."
