Weather expert has great news for Electric Picnic fans as long forecast hints at warm spell

A leading weather expert has made a prediction which will be great reading for anyone heading along to Electric Picnic in a couple of weeks.

Ireland's biggest music festival returns for the first time in three years on the first weekend of September.

Dermot Kennedy, Megan Thee Stallion, Picture This, Snow Patrol and Tame Impala will take to the main stage in Stradbally from September 2-4, with over 70,000 people set to camp and enjoy the festivities.

Usually, you need to bring your rain gear to camp in a waterproof tent with some flasks and a cover of some kind - but things may look a little differently this year.

Although things are unsettled over the next few days, Alan O'Reilly of Carlow Weather noted on Twitter: "Still a trend for a settled and warmer end to the month - Could be good news for Electric Picnic!"

We do have to get through a wet weekend first though, with Saturday and Sunday in particular set to see a washout.

Saturday will start with "a band of showery rain in Ulster, which will move southwards across the country, turning heavy or thundery at times, but drier and sunnier conditions will follow in behind later," Met Eireann say.

"It will be a drier start in the south with just isolated showers and a few sunny spells. The rain will track into the south later in the afternoon turning light and patchy as it does so" the forecast continues.

Sunday morning will be "mainly dry with sunny spells in central and northern areas, but with outbreaks of rain likely in southern parts. During the afternoon and evening, cloud will generally increase across the rest of the country with a little patchy rain or drizzle developing." the forecast concludes.
