Weather Alert: Heavy rain predicted in NW India including Delhi-NCR

Heavy rain predicted in Delhi-NCR too

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday issued a warning for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across parts of Central, Northwest, and Northeast India for the next few days.

Red alert
The weather department has issued a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall over Uttarakhand today and orange and yellow alerts for very heavy to heavy rainfall over Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Odisha.

According to IMD, this weather pattern is influenced by a depression that developed over Central India and moved to Uttar Pradesh.

“The depression lying over Central Uttar Pradesh is expected to move northeast and gradually weaken into a well-marked low-pressure area within the next 12 hours,” the IMD said.

Low pressure area
The IMD also predicted the formation of a low-pressure area over coastal Bangladesh and adjoining north Bay of Bengal during the next 24 hours.

“Thereafter, it is likely to move slowly west-northwestwards and concentrate into a depression over coastal west Bengal and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal during the subsequent 48 hours,” the IMD said.

Delhi-NCR
Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) have been experiencing light rain continuously since yesterday evening, which has brought down the temperature and air quality levels in the city. According to the weather department, generally cloudy weather is expected to bring more drizzle in the region tomorrow. (with Agency inputs)
