Weapon and drugs arrest after driver 'ran' from police

A man who allegedly tried to flee from police in Ashton-under-Lyne was swiftly arrested on suspicion of several crimes including possession with intent to supply class a drugs and possession of an offensive weapon.

Police spotted the suspect driving a Volkswagen Golf with cloned plates and the man then tried to run off.

However, officers swiftly caught him and he was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class a and class b drugs, possessing an offensive weapon, not having a valid licence, driving without insurance and failing a roadside drugs test.

GMP Traffic said on Twitter in the early hours of Tuesday morning: “The driver of this cloned Golf ran off when he saw #XT28 in #Ashton-under-Lyne earlier.

“Didn't get far and arrested for possession with intent to supply class A and B drugs, also possess offensive weapon, no licence, no insurance and failed a drug test.”
