“We wanted to design a perfect wardrobe” - ex-Vogue editor Lucinda Chambers on Jigsaw x Collagerie collection

When ex-Vogue editors Lucinda Chambers and Serena Hood set up fashion and lifestyle ecommerce site Collagerie at the end of 2019, they set out to make the online shopping experience simpler and more enjoyable with a colourful, curated product edit spanning from high street to high end.

And now Collagerie has designed its first capsule clothing in partnership with Jigsaw, with a similar aim: to simplify your wardrobe while injecting some colour and joy. “We wanted to design a perfect wardrobe, the unexpected with the useful,” explains Lucinda Chambers, who worked as British Vogue’s Fashion Director for 25 years. “I think it is a perfect combination of these two things, luxury meeting function.”

The 22-piece collection was designed by Chambers and Jigsaw creative director Jo Sykes, and features super practical items like a pair of chunky low-heeled western ankle boots, chunky knit polo necks and knit dresses, a shearling-trimmed duffle coat and a quilted coat with detachable tartan gilet that Chambers predicts might be the most popular item in the capsule– “you can wear the tweed gilet separately so it’s a really great investment!”

More glamorous pieces come by way of a pleated asymmetrical kilt, balloon sleeve blouses with oversized gold buttons and lots of chunky gold jewellery. There’s also some particularly cool colourful striped knitwear that feels reminiscent of the aesthetic of Colville, the luxury brand Chambers has also launched since leaving Vogue.

“It has it’s roots in everything we love about British design,” says Chambers, “so playing on the idea of a duffle coat, a tweed coat, a kilt, a Guernsey and then turning them on their head to make them utterly modern and relevant for today.”

The British high street might be facing tough times but for Jigsaw, a brand founded in 1970, this collaboration certainly feels like a good fit. “Both brands share a great synergy in our love of colour, our commitment to design with integrity and a point of difference,” said Jo Sykes. “A true celebration of iconic British style.”
