'We've got a problem' - former England ace makes brutal claim about Man United's Harry Maguire

Former Liverpool defender Glen Johnson has told Manchester United captain Harry Maguire that he should not be picked for England at the Qatar World Cup.

The Three Lions' first match of the tournament takes place on Monday, November 21 when they face Iran in Group B. Gareth Southgate will name his 26-man squad for Qatar this Thursday.

It is expected that Maguire will receive a call-up despite only playing in eight matches this season - just four of which were in the Premier League. Erik ten Hag currently sees the Englishman as his fourth-choice centre-back behind Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof.

Johnson thinks England could be in big trouble if Maguire starts for England in less than two weeks' time having featured in so few games this season.

"As a neutral, I think if a player can't get into his club team, then how can he be good enough for England? That's what I'd be thinking," the former full-back told BookiesBonuses.com.

"I know it's United and they've got a good squad, but if Harry Maguire is classed as one of our best centre-halves and he can't get into his club team, then I think we've got a problem."

If Maguire does get the nod from Southgate this week then he will join a whole host of his United teammates at this year's World Cup.

On Monday, Brazil revealed that Casemiro, Fred and Antony have all made it into their World Cup squad.
