We trust each other: Callum McGregor has 'no worries' Celtic board will strengthen

CALLUM McGregor has expressed confidence that Celtic will land the players they need to enjoy a successful season domestically and in Europe during the final week of the summer transfer window.

Brendan Rodgers revealed that he is unhappy that he still needs to strengthen his squad with just days of the window remaining following his side’s William Hill Premiership win over St Mirren in Paisley on Sunday.

He also called on the Parkhead club’s board to free up some of the record £30m fee they will receive from for Matt O’Riley, the playmaker who completed his move to Brighton in England yesterday.

But captain McGregor is optimistic Celtic, who will play eight games in the revamped Champions League in the coming months, will bring in the reinforcements they need.

"When you lose two or three bodies, especially quality ones, then you have to try and replace them with, if not the same quality, players who can help the group,” he said.

"I am no different to anyone else. We all want to see the club and the group moving forward. We've lost a few so it's important that we try and replace them.

"But I think we have to trust the people in the positions to do the job. That's the one thing that the club's been good at. We all trust each other.

McGregor added: "It's an exciting week for sure. For the players there is the game at the weekend and the Champions draw as well. We'll see that come in. But the full focus will be on the game. We as players just have to let everything else fall into place.

"We will train as hard as we can this week. What we can affect is the game next Sunday, so that's where our focus will be. But, yeah, it's an exciting week."
