You can’t go wrong with a cafe. Whether it’s to dine in or takeaway because you’re in a rush, there’s usually something for everyone.
On 367 Haydn Road in Sherwood Road is Cafe PAS MAMA. Located in a residential area, the cafe is seconds away from the Honda showroom on Haydn Road and next door to a convenience store.

I’ve never been to a Lithuanian cafe before but there’s a first time for everything. Sheltering away from the cold, on arrival at the cafe, it was only me in there for a while until others started to come in for their lunch .
Taking in the decor inside, an ornament in the shape of Lithuania hung on the wall, proudly. With a flower in a vase on each table and chairs the colours yellow, green and red like the Lithuanian flag tucked behind a breakfast bar, this cafe is a real home from home for the local Lithuanian community, I can only assume.
I was greeted by a woman behind the counter who asked me how my day was. After having a chat, I looked at the menu.
With a range of foods from cheesy chips for £3.50 to Ribeye Beef Steak for £10.50, which is served with either potatoes or chips and salad, the cafe also has a children's menu. With many healthy options too such as grilled tandoori fish and herrings with hot mashed potatoes, this cafe serves wholesome home-cooked meals that I’m sure many people would enjoy.
As more people started to come in, I could see that the soup was very popular. On the menu, served in small or large portions the soup is either £2.50 or £3.50.
As I waited for my meal, conversations in a different language took place around me showing the support that the cafe is getting from different communities. Once my food arrived, I dug in straight away.
With hot, crunchy, breaded mozzarella sticks complemented by a nice fresh salad and sweet chilli sauce as a dip, this cafe is perfect for a quick lunch. I had no complaints whatsoever with my salad and my overall experience was 10/10 at Cafe PAS MAMA.
Next time, I’ll have to try the Zepelins (grated potato dumplings with minced meat.) For wholesome, culturered, hot meals I would say that PAS MAMA is definitely worth trying.
