We tried pre-mixed cocktails from M&S, Aldi, Tesco and Asda and an 85p one stole the show

Pubs and bars are back open but that doesn't mean you can't still enjoy a drink at home from time to time.

Supermarkets now have a big range of premixed cocktails and we've been putting them to the test.

Premixed cocktails are a quick easy way to enjoy a flavour of the real deal, but do they taste as good?

We visited M&S, Aldi, Asda and Tesco and chose a selection to try. With the bank holiday weekend upon us, it's the perfect time to unwind and enjoy a glass or two of something fun (drinking responsibly of course).

Here's our verdict on the premixed cocktails we put to the test.

Marks and Spencer, Passion Star Martini

Marks and Spencer Passion Star Martini premixed cocktail (Liverpool Echo)

Available in store, this previously came in a can but you can now buy a whole bottle for £5.

It comes ready to drink in a glamorous gold bottle and is made with passion fruit juice, vanilla flavouring and vodka. The bottle has three 250ml servings, each containing two units and 195 calories.

I chilled it in the fridge and drank it without ice. It tasted fruity and tart and reminded me of my childhood favourite Lilt. I'm not keen on drinks that are overly sweet, so I enjoyed the acidity in this. It quenched my thirst but didn't taste sickly.

Personally, I didn't feel like it packed much of a punch but I did enjoy the flavour. I would buy it again and drink a smaller measure topped up with prosecco.

Aldi, Tamova Cocktail Woo Woo flavour

Aldi Tamova premixed cocktail Woo Woo flavour (Liverpool Echo)

This comes in a sachet which you put in the freezer. Then 25 minutes before you want to drink it you put it in the fridge. After that you squeeze it into your glass and it's ready. The cocktails are a bargain 85p from Aldi and each sachet contains a 250ml serving, containing one unit of alcohol and 224 calories.

It was bright in colour and the frozen syrupy texture took me back to my 90s Slush Puppie days. Confession time - I haven't drunk Woo Woos since I got a bit carried away on them at an 18th birthday party, many (many) years ago. Thankfully I seem to be over that now, and quite enjoyed the flavour!

Being very sweet it's not something I'd personally want more than one of at a time, but it would make a nice grown up alternative to an ice lolly on a hot day. A fun choice I'll be slipping into the trolley again on my next visit.

Tesco, All Shook Up Hawaiian Daiquiri

We tried Tesco's All Shook Up Hawaiian Daiquiri, £6 (Liverpool Echo)

Available in Tesco stores as part of its All Shook Up pre-made cocktail range, the Hawaiian Daiquiri is priced at £6 for 2.25L.

The daiquiri comes ready to drink in a ‘party box’ that contains around 15 servings, with an easy-to-use nozzle to pour yourself a drink. The cocktail is a tropical juice drink with natural pineapple flavour and sugar syrup, shaken with fruit alcohol and white rum.

I chilled the box in the fridge and served it without ice, which meant I was able to get the full tangy, fruity taste.

I could barely taste the alcohol and it was very sweet, but not overly sickly. Since I prefer my cocktails on the weaker side, this was perfect for me, but if you’re looking for one that packs a punch maybe choose something with a higher volume.

I would buy this again as it seems ideal for summer parties or barbecues.

Asda, Strawberry Daiquiri

Asda offer a wide range of premixed cocktails although when I visited the store, they were in short supply so I opted for one of the last cans on the shelf - a strawberry daiquiri.

This is one of my favourite cocktails although I only tend to drink them on holiday.

It comes ready to drink in a 250ml can and is described as 'lemonade with strawberry juice and white rum' with 4% alcohol. Priced at £1, it seems like you can't go wrong but I was mistaken.

I poured it into a glass from the fridge and took a few sips, but it was a bit lacklustre and I could hardly taste the rum. It was very sweet and sickly and the taste reminded me a bit of Red Bull.

It wouldn't be my first choice in the supermarket next aisle, but it's certainly cheap and cheerful.
