We love a new opening at Glasgow Live, and it's great to see a little bounce for the hospitality sector during the tough times we are all facing.
And in the Alchemist you'll find a little bit of magical distraction that's ideal for a weekend treat which promises 'theatrical' cocktail serves and "molecular mixology" from behind its golden bar.
But is the luxurious new drinking den that lies just off George Square as spellbinding as it makes out? We headed along to a sneak peek evening ahead of its opening to find out.
The first thing you'll notice upon entering the Alchemist is the striking interior which is filled with the occult imagery the brand is famous for, with one room just off the main bar even offering a hyper-realistic full moon in all its glory stretched across the ceiling.

Ideal for those of a more gothic persuasion, or those who just like things on the mystical side, the surroundings really set you up for the magic show that's in store when it comes to ordering their cocktails.
With an adept team of mixologists and an established skillset in theatrics, each of the concoctions on offer on the drinks menus are designed to impress.
From the Harry Potteresque potions class-style ‘Colour Changing One’, which comes with two mini science-style beakers to pour into your glass and sees the blue liquid topped with dry ice, magically change to red, to the red shimmering 'TNT', which even features its own fuse, there are plenty of exciting options to keep customers enthralled.
Creeping dry ice, bouncing sparks, roaring flames and smoke-filled bubbles abound, as the skilled bartenders go about their business with all the pizzazz of Victorian illusionists wowing crowds.
Don't worry though, it's still a working bar and they have plenty of the more traditional options for those just looking for a beer or gin and tonic to enjoy as they sample the exciting dishes on offer.
Overall, it's an auspicious start and a fun glimpse at what this exciting new venue has to offer, and yes, it very much delivers on the promised theatrics – and perhaps even a little magic too.
