We tried Marks and Spencer's Sourdough range and there's a reason it was hard to find

Marks and Spencer are known for their food with many of us knowing the tag line, 'This is not just food...this is M&S Food'.

Having been offered to try their new range, we jumped at the chance and it was well worth it.

And although we weren't able to get our hands on everything in the range with most things being out of stock, we aren't shocked with the retailers food clearly proving popular.

First up we found their bread and it is definitely worth picking up a loaf - especially if you have guests over.

Talking about their bread they say: "We don’t add anything artificial to our handcrafted sourdough – new to our in-store bakery this month – so it takes time for the dough to develop its unique flavour and moreish texture. Each one takes 30 hours to make. It’s worth the wait: made with a combination of rye and wheat flours, the sourdough has a deliciously intense flavour with a slight tang and crunchy, dark crust, and characteristic little holes in the dough.

"Better yet, these artisan loaves are a bigger size, so they’re perfect for weekend family breakfasts or dinner parties. Any left over can be popped in the freezer or toasted."

Just like the bread, their brioche buns were also popular. So with that in mind, we picked up a packet along with some burger essentials including their own burger sauce, some lettuce and their own crinkle gherkins - and boy did this make a great meal. We used the same cheese as we did with our bread and the combination was divine. No more getting burgers delivered for us!

Another item that seems to get a lot of hype is their bagels however we sadly couldn't find any in our local stores as it was all sold out. It's not surprising though given juts how popular the range as a whole seems to be.

Taking about their range, M&S say that their "delicious chewy crust is uniquely achieved using a long, cold ferment over 16 hours, followed by a shock of steam in the oven to create exceptional texture and flavour." They add that you can "serve your bagels with cream cheese and smoked salmon, go all New York with pastrami and pickles, make them the Italian way with pesto, olives and cheese or rustle up a quintessentially English lunch with cucumber pickle and dill.

"Or, treat yourself to an afternoon tea with a toasted bagel smothered in almond butter and jam."

But whilst we couldn't find their bagels, we did find their crafted signature new bread and it was delicious. We had our with the M&S Butter as well as their Cornish Cruncher™ cheddar, as suggested by their website, and some serrano ham.

Their cheese, which paired perfectly with the bread, is well worth also picking up and would make a great addition to cheeseboard - we're thinking it will make the Christmas shopping list!
