We tried Home Bargains' super size giant Toblerone and had so many questions

Ahead of Christmas, Home Bargains was selling a bar of Toblerone so big it caused outrage amongst customers over its price .

Weighing in at an impressive 4.5kg the bar was available to buy for £49.

Some people were clearly shocked by its size, with one person commenting: “You want your head looking at if you’re gonna spend £50 on chocolate”.

But others were impressed with the bar, with one saying: "Got one last year took me 8 months to eat the monster."

When we found out about the super size confectionery we simply had to get hold of one to see what all the fuss was about.

And we had many questions that needed answering:

Is it really one giant bar?

The first thing that came to mind when we saw the huge Toblerone was whether it was in fact a massive version of the popular treat, or just a big box with lots of little bars inside?

We can confirm, it is in fact one giant, 4.5kg bar, measuring approximately 80cm long.

Does it break up easily?

Absolutely not. When we opened it, we found a couple of pieces had cracked during transit. But trying to break the pieces apart with your hands was near impossible. Several people tried and failed.

The best way to do it is to squeeze together two tops of the triangles and it should break easily at the base.

How do you even eat it?

We carefully chopped bits off with a sharp knife. But there’s nothing graceful about this, you just need to get stuck in and bite away at it.

How many triangles are there?

The entire bar contains 12 triangles and unlike standard bars, they don’t have the letters spelling Toblerone on them.

How many calories does it contain?

You might want to brace yourself for this bit. Each triangle weighs 375g and contains 1,983 calories. The entire bar contains 23,800 calories.

How do the stats compare?

  • At 9.9lb, the giant Toblerone weighs more than the average newborn baby at 7.5lb
  • Each piece contains eight times the amount of calories as a Big Mac
  • To burn off the calories in just one of the triangles you would need to run for around 18 miles or do a six hour bike ride

Can you still buy it?

The giant Toblerone went on sale in the run up to Christmas, but the bad news is, it’s currently out of stock on the Home Bargains website.
