We tried Glasgow's Karen's Diner event and it was wilder than we ever expected

Glasgow's diners might just have met their match as the rudest diner in the UK, where customers are promised the worst service imaginable, has rolled into town.

Karen's Diner landed in Shawlands on tour this weekend, bringing the now-infamous experience which has taken both England and Australia by storm to Scotland.

And you just know Glasgow Live had to pop along to see what the deal was, so arriving at the Corona Bar in Shawlands on a cool Friday night we were immediately greeted by the stern-faced servers who told us where to go, and then told us where to sit.

Snarls, eye rolls, rude gestures... Karen's Diner staff don't mess about. (SM)

We had an idea of what to expect from this fun experience, having seen the viral videos where people take unsuspecting family members along and then film their reaction.

Having originally launched in Australia, customers at Karen's are encouraged to complain as much as possible throughout their dining experience only to be ignored or even lambasted from the staff.

You see, in this diner, the customer is definitely not always right – in fact, they are almost definitely wrong and are usually told off for it too.

However, when you get here you quickly realise this is so much more than what you'd and a lot more fun.

For your £40 ticket, you get a two-course meal and three drinks tokens plus all the abuse you can handle.

With skilful compere Misha (the head Karen) playing songs, swearing like Lewis Capaldi and getting everyone involved in the fun and games, we watched as navigated the room, placing hats with insults on people's heads and pulled them up to the floor to take part in the embarrassing challenges.

We got given this lovely hat to wear. (SM)

We won't spoil this part too much, as the games are genuinely funny and a large part of why the atmosphere is so raucous, as people laugh and cajole each other as the fun ramps up with each challenge.

And don't worry, most people get to take part, as Misha is only too happy for everyone to share in the embarrassment, and judging by some of the performances more than a few people were indulging in a little Dutch courage.

But it's all in the spirit of the experience, and judging by the peals of laughter from around the room, most people were loving it.

Though it may have been the dream of anyone who has worked in customer services roles everywhere, slagging off customers to their faces isn't as easy as it looks and the best part about Karen's Diner is how adept the staff are at it.

It's easy to slag customers off, but really, it’s not easy to do it in a funny way and trust us, the servers are very very good at what they do.

Growls, snarls, sticking their middle finger up at customers, and more swear words than a Tarantino film (we really were surprised to see young kids here), the servers have perfected disinterest and disdain to a tee.

And people were clearly loving it as smiles followed the pink-aproned servers as they navigated the room ignoring pleas for assistance, slapping down plates of food on tables and generally just abusing everyone in the room.

Raucous, rowdy and utterly bonkers, Karen's Diner could easily just be an experience that turns customer service on its head but it's so much more than that.

It's a genuinely fun night that will be memorable for more than just the videos and pics of the angry servers.

We look forward to Karen's Diner on Tour coming back to Glasgow hopefully later in the year, and perhaps even, finding a more permanent spot in the capital.
