We tried Elfingrove's new fondue offering and it transported us to the Alps

The lead-up to Christmas can sometimes feel a little slow in Glasgow, with the dark nights and dreich weather fighting against the festive spirit.

Thankfully, with John Lewis ads, Christmas light switch-ons, and of course, chocolate box-sweet Hallmark movies on Channel 5, there's plenty to get us going.

To add more fuel to our Yuletide log, Glasgow Live headed along to this year's Elfigrove to see what festive-themed treats they had in store.

And more specifically, the winter warmers on offer at their exciting new Skate-Side Dining offering, which has been added this year.

Featuring table service, cosy blankets to coorie in with, and a view onto the rink, it's a fun addition to the event, which offers everything from a silent disco and Apres Ski Bar to the UK's biggest ice rink and the country's first 'Snow Wheel'.

The menu itself is filled with festive-themed dishes including the 'Pigs in Blankets' Hot Dog; the brie, cranberry and stuffing toastie and the pulled turkey, stuffing and gravy fries.

Though it's the centrepiece, the Festive Fondue (Raclette and Comté £28 for two sharing) – with pigs in blankets, roasties, stuffing, cranberry sauce, grapes and bread – that really jumped out at us.

The huge pot of Raclette cheese was brought over alongside a small burner before the board of sides (and a second serving of roasties as we couldn't resist) and the friendly server team joked that it was only bettered by the dessert version (a chocolate fondue with mince pies, waffles and marshmallows).

Tucked into our blankets, surrounded by Christmas trees and sipping on hot chocolate, it really felt like we'd been transported to the Alps - especially when we got stuck into dipping our selection of sides into warm, melted cheese.

Stuffed with stuffing, roasties, pigs in blankets and plenty of delicious gooey cheese, we were left with facing up to dessert. Although we couldn't manage the talked-up chocolate fondue, we settled for a S'mores (£8) to share.

With plenty of marshmallows, biscuit, melted chocolate and ice cream, it was the ideal ending to a festive fun-filled night – we only wish we'd decided to get one each.
