We tried Edinburgh's worst rated Greggs after a customer vowed 'never to return'

Edinburgh is not short of a Greggs bakery to fix those sausage roll cravings.

There are ten branches in the city centre alone with others sprawled out across the capital.

Among them stands the 85/87 Rose Street branch which has been crowned one of Edinburgh’s worst rated Greggs on the popular review site, TripAdvisor.

Holding a very average rating of three stars overall the store shares this rating with the Greggs situated on Easter Road.

The city centre branch has a mixture of 'poor' and 'terrible' reviews which are particularly focused on bad service and long waiting times to be served.

One review complained about the store being filthy. They said: “Apart from the fact that the hot food was cold and they were not prepared to reheat it (health and safety) the floor and tables had not been cleaned from at least the night before and regarding the floor, perhaps even longer. We did not return”

Another said: “The service, it’s really bad, the staff unprofessional, very rude no manners. I had to leave the premises I won’t recommend it”

I decided to put Greggs Rose Street to the test and see whether or not the quality of the experience was worse at this specific site.

Adding another level of difficulty I decided to head down at lunch time when the store would be at its busiest and full of hungry customers.

As I approached the branch it was clear to see it was very busy with people queuing out the door of the small store.

Despite this I was served within five minutes of arriving with staff working like a well oiled machine to quickly churn out fresh baked goods.

Staff were very friendly and cheerful even in the rush of customers and were happy to help me choose some lunchtime treats.

I chose a classic steak bake and a glazed doughnut as an extra snack for later. The steak bake was as comforting and reliable as always and the perfect temperature to eat straight away.

Having never actually tried any of Greggs sweet treats, I found the doughnut was a soft and tasty treat that was great value for money costing less than £1.

I had no complaints with my trip to this particular Greggs branch. Although I never expect a classy venue, I do always find the brand to be lovingly consistent and on this occasion they didn't miss.
