We tried Edinburgh House of Gods' stylish new bar with a dark twist and it was lush

We tried Edinburgh’s House of Gods brand-new bar with a dark twist and it was incredible. Lilith's Lounge located on the Cowgate is the newest addition to the hotel and has a 3am license.

The bar has a Garden of Eden theme with jungle animals and dark tones throughout and celebrates Lilith from the bible who was supposedly Adam's first partner and was later banished from the garden.

Said to be a demoness, the bar has dark themes with the new menu printed on tarot cards. Its the perfect setting for a night of debauchery and indulgence.

Tucked away in the Cowgate, once you enter the stylish bar its like entering another world, even the huge mirrors create the trick affect of a never ending room.

Presented with the usual high standard House of Gods service, you are brought menus and a glass of tap water to sip on while you decide from a friendly bar tender.

The menu is brand new and quite different from the usual House of Gods bar menu which we were impressed with, presented on eight large cards, guests can choose their cocktail at random just like a tarot reading.

We did that at first - choosing the card we were attracted to most - mine was an adorable leopard but after seeing the drinks were pretty much the opposite of our tastes, we looked at all the cards to decide. This is where it got tricky, there were a great selection of really flavoursome cocktails with some unique combinations.

We wanted to try them all but narrowed it down to a couple. I opted for a Fall from Grace which had rich almond, chocolate and butterscotch flavours with a Malbec finish. It was like an Amaretto Sour but a much more grown up version, smooth, but not too sweet.

The different flavours came through one by one all with the subtle after taste of Malbec which worked surprisingly well. This cocktail was my stand out of the evening but we had three more equally delicious cocktails to follow, including a spicy chilli style margarita made with mezcal instead of standard tequila and a classic old fashioned with a quirky twist.

The interior of the bar is filled with grand furnishings and deep green hues giving it a very luxurious but cool feel. There are lots of plants and paintings that hint at the Garden of Eden theme if you were not previously aware if it.

Upstairs and ushered away from the bustling of the busy Cowgate, Lilith's Lounge felt very intimate and was the perfect escape for an evening. Chatting with an old friend the hours flew by and the outside world felt miles away.

Just like the other House of Gods bars and hotel, you get the feeling that you are on an old Hollywood movie set as soon as you step into Lilith's Lounge. The boutique bar is located at 233 the Cowgate and now open from Monday to Sunday 5pm-3am you can find out more and book here.
