'We tried Cadbury's new mystery flavour bars - the second one caused an argument'

Cadbury recently announced a new nationwide competition, calling on people to try and figure out the mystery flavours of their two new chocolate bars.

The taste-bud detectives who can unwrap the mystery are in with the chance of winning a £5,000 prize.

Intrigued by the idea and curious to see if we could work it out for ourselves, we decided to do a blind taste test at The Mirror, sampling each of the new bars and hazarding a guess as to what was inside.

It's fair to say that it ended up being a lot trickier than we thought it was going to be - and also incredibly divisive, with an argument breaking out over the second sweet treat.

We were in agreement about the first chocolate bar (The Mirror)

Blindfolds on, Zoe Forsey, Kyle O'Sullivan and I sat down to sample the chocolate, pens and paddles at the ready to write down and share our guesses.

We were given a few squares of chocolate each and started by giving them a quick sniff, to see if there was any tell-tale scent that might provide a clue as to what we were about to consume.

The smell instantly reminded me of the Strawberry Dream sweets from the Roses tins my family always has at Christmas - and the taste was pretty similar too. Albeit, quite subtle.

The three of us all agreed that the first mystery bar definitely had a berry taste to it, with Zoe and I voting for a strawberry filling, but Kyle thought it was raspberry.

The second bar divided us (The Mirror)

The second bar had a much stronger flavour that had us wrinkling our faces in disgust.

Biting into the chocolate I couldn't help but think of the neon-yellow banana medicine I was given as a child whenever I suffered with an ear infection.

There was a definite tropical, artificial taste about it.

But it seems we all had different ideas on the flavour.

When we removed our blindfolds, it was interesting to see Kyle was under the impression it tasted like apricot, while Zoe suggested it was sour apple. I'd gone for banana.

We couldn't help but pull faces at each other's paddles and a mini argument ensued as we were each convinced we were right and the others were very, very wrong.

So what are the mystery flavours, you ask?

Frustratingly, after all of that, we still don't know.

At the end of our taste test, we checked back with Cadbury to see if any of us had come close to guessing the correct answers, but the flavours are being kept secret and are under wraps until October.

If you want to try and solve the mystery for yourself, the bars will be available to purchase until October while stocks last.

The Mystery Bars 01 and 02 cost £1.50 for a 170g medium block, or 69p for a single 45g bar. Prices may vary between retailers.
