We tried Big Feed and it's still one of the best days out in Glasgow

Now that we're all starting to ease back into a relatively 'normal' life, we thought it was only right to return to one of our favourite weekend spots as it reopened its doors.

And it turns out, Big Feed hasn't lost its touch after two difficult years for the hospitality industry.

In the post-lockdown era we're currently in, it's now an even better place to spend the weekend thanks to the spacious and well-ventilated warehouse - ideal if you've got a family or dog in tow.

With a new line-up of vendors, a well-stocked bar, and live music, Big Feed is definitely a must-visit for newbies and regulars alike.

Here's how our day went:

Getting there

Big Feed can be found in a warehouse in Govan, at 249 - 325 Govan Road.

We hopped on the subway to Cessnock and walked about 10 or so minutes to get to the venue but if you've got the car, there's plenty of parking on-site and nearby.

What's it like inside?

The Big Feed warehouse is home to various street food vans and plenty of benches for seating. There's also a beer garden when the weather is feeling kind.

As well as the food and drink vans, there are also arcade games, a live music stage, and a balloon twister - everything you could need. For furry friends, there's water and treats and of course for humans, full toilet facilities.

Be sure to check the weather before heading as some days a jacket will definitely be necessary.

The live music and casual vibe of the venue make for a chilled atmosphere - perfect for a low-key day out or spot for pre-drinks and food if you're heading out out.

What's there to eat?

On our visit, there was a whole host of vendors on offer with every kind of cuisine.

On the line-up so far is Pizza Geeks, Babos Toastie Hoose, Mac N Cheese, Duck, Salt 'N' Chilli, The Falafel Stop, and Firedog.

There's also Green Bean Coffee Machine for caffeine lovers and Muerte Por Churros for those with a sweet tooth.

What did we try

As ever, it was difficult to choose what to eat with there being so much selection.

We were immediately drawn to Duck and their aromatic duck shawarma which definitely seemed like a popular choice going by the line of customers. The wrap was absolutely massive and stuffed full of tender roasted duck, delicious Asian slaw, sriracha, chips, and fresh chillis (if you can handle them).

It was definitely up there as one of the best shawarma I've had. Although it was A LOT to get through, the flavours and mix of sauce helped it go down like a treat.

Next up came a very long break before we embarked on a visit to Pizza Geeks. Made fresh in a real pizza oven, the result is authentic and so, so saucy pizza. We went for the Super Mario which came with pepperoni, mushrooms and, of course, mozzarella.

The pizza was a great size, especially if you're having more than one dish, and was perfectly light. Did I mention how good the sauce was?

Salt 'N' Chilli was on the list of stops. I managed to pop in order once their queue went down to sample some of their salt and chilli spring rolls.

The spring rolls were perfectly cooked, crisp on the outside but soft and full of flavour inside. The salt and chilli gave it the perfect kick and sauce to make you keep going back for more.

Done with the savoury dishes for one day, we tried some churros from Muerte Por Churros.

It was late into the evening by the time we got round to trying but the churros were still freshly made. They have a selection of sauces and ways to enjoy the churros but we opted for a simple salted caramel sauce.

We enjoyed the sweet snack on our way back to the subway and despite the fact it was absolutely freezing, it kind of (nearly) felt like being on holiday. Bliss.

How much?

Another positive about Big Feed is it is very reasonably priced. With the cost of most dishes hovering around the £7-10 mark, depending on what you go for.

You only have to pay a £2 entry fee to get in. Under 10s and NHS staff go free, while the venue is dog-friendly.

The verdict?

We've been to the Big Feed a fair few times at this point and it never disappoints. It really ticks all the boxes with young families, big groups of friends, couples and many, many dogs all mingling under the same roof.

Even for those who have visited before, it's great to go back and know there's always something new to try.

And for newbies, what are you waiting for?

When's it on?

Keep an eye on Big Feed's Facebook and Instagram to make sure you don't miss any future dates.

The next dates already on the calendar are March 26 and 27 and April 1 and 2.
