We still have two games against them: Rangers new boy targeting title win this season

NEW Rangers signing Nicolas Raskin yesterday admitted his ambition at Ibrox is to win the Scottish title – and refused to rule out his chances of doing so this season.

Raskin, who completed a £1.75m move from Standard Liege in his native Belgium earlier this week, is set to make his debut for Michael Beale’s team against Ross County at home today.

The Glasgow club are nine points behind their city rivals Celtic in the cinch Premiership table with 14 top flight games remaining in the 2022/23 campaign.

However, their new midfielder believes that with two Old Firm games left in the league that Rangers are still capable of catching and overtaking the defending champions.

“I want to be champion for sure,” he said. “I want to know what it means to be champions.

“I have heard that we are nine points behind – but we still have two games against them. Everything can change fast. You win those two games? You never know. I think the team is confident.

“Of course we have to believe it. The way the team played on Wednesday (in the 3-0 win over third-placed Hearts at Tynecastle) gives confidence to the team to believe it.

“In football everything is possible. Just be positive, look in front and do the best you can. If you do the best you can, you won’t have regrets. We have to make sure we do the job and then we’ll see how far we go.”

Raskin added: “I want to win trophies here also because I know we have won a lot of trophies in the past.

“We play Celtic in the League Cup final this month. It is very exciting because it is the League Cup final we want to win trophies. We have to put into our minds that we want to win it.

“I also want to do something in Europe. I want to play in the Champions League. I have never played in the Champions League before, only the Europa League. Now I want to play Champions League and not just play, compete as well and make a nice story.”
