'We simply cannot survive': Another Glasgow restaurant closes amid rising costs

ANOTHER Glasgow city centre restaurant is closing due to rising costs in the industry.

American diner chain Monterey Jack's is shutting down their popular Merchant Square venue.

They cited energy prices combined with prices of produce and paying rent as the reason they were struggling to 'survive'.

In a statement shared on social media, they wrote: "Sorry guys! We have tried our best!

"With the cost of energy, goods etc and the cost of trying to survive with the costs our landlord's levy we simply cannot survive.

"We love you and thank you but must bid you farewell!"

Monterey Jack's specialises in burgers, fried chicken, waffles and a range of desserts and has sites across the country.

These are still operating at Glasgow Fort, XSite Braehead, Hamilton, East Kilbride, Falkirk, Perth, Dunfermline, and Stirling.

The closure of their city centre chain comes after we reported that Route 32, a takeaway in the East End, said an emotional farewell to customers after their final day of trading.
