'We need to talk' - Manchester United target Harry Kane admits he's unhappy with Tottenham's standards

Manchester United target Harry Kane has discussed his frustration at Tottenham's dismal results this season, which have seen the club thrown into disarray and fall out of contention for Champions League football.

Tottenham sacked Antonio Conte in March and they promoted his assistant Cristian Stellini to oversee the team until the end of the campaign, but he was relieved of his duties as interim coach after just four games in charge.

Spurs are also guaranteed to go a 15th successive season without winning a trophy and will not play in the Champions League again until 2024 at the earlest.

Kane, who is yet to win a trophy in his career, attempted to leave Tottenham two years ago and he's about to enter the final year of his contract at the club, which makes him an attractive proposition for Erik ten Hag this summer.

Ten Hag has made Kane his priority strikes target and the player has confirmed he's not happy with the plight of his current club.

In an interview this week, Kane discussed the club's fortunes and hinted that a drop in standards has contributed to his frustration.

"It's been a difficult season," Kane told Sky Sports. "Probably the last couple of years, the last two or three, we haven't been where we want to be as a club, so ultimately, there's some internal stuff we need to talk about.

"We need to discuss some of the standards around the team and the training ground, which we need to get back to. We had [standards] those in place when Mauricio Pochettino was here, so internally we need to do that.

"The chairman [Daniel Levy] will make a decision on what he thinks is best for the club, in terms of the coach and who he wants to bring in, the players to go and who he wants to bring in.

"I always think you're never too far away from being competitive with the right people, but also, you're never too far away from dropping down to 10th or 11th place in the Premier League because that is the standard.

"It's an important moment for the club, to feel a connection again with the fans, who I know have been frustrated with these moments. We need to try to build that relationship back up and try to push all in the same direction."

Kane will celebrate his 30th birthday this July and he's expected to command a fee in the region of £100m if leaving Spurs.
