'We need answers': hit-and-run victim's family plea

The family of Kaz O'Maye want to know how he came to be struck by a car in Sydney's southwest. (HANDOUT/NSW POLICE)

The family of a man who was critically injured in a hit and run have made an emotional appeal for the driver to come forward and help provide them with answers.

Kaz O'Maye, 30, was found unconscious on the side of Bringelly Road at Rossmore, in Sydney's southwest, shortly after midnight on January 22.

He was taken to Liverpool Hospital in a critical condition after being hit by a car while crossing the road.

The driver is yet to be identified.

Mr O'Maye's family on Friday pleaded for the person responsible to give them closure less than two weeks after the father-of-three was left for dead.

"We have to make a decision today that we really don't want to make," his father, Paul O'Maye, said.

"He's got three young children that need answers of what's happened to their father. He's got a fiance that needs answers."

"Whoever's done this will have to live with this for the rest of their life.

Mr O'Maye remains in a critical but stable condition in hospital.

Police are still hunting for two cars seen in the area at the time of the incident, after earlier releasing CCTV footage of a silver SUV and dark-coloured four-wheel-drive ute.

Mr O'Maye's sister, Shae'lee Stevens, said the family wanted to know what happened in the 30-year-old's last moments before the collision.

"So we can give these answers to people who are asking us, for his children, so that we can leave them with the best memory," Ms Stevens said, forcing back tears.

Crash Investigation Unit commander Jason Hogan said police were looking to speak with the drivers of the two vehicles to help the family gain information.
