'We met at Heathrow Airport like in the movies - now we're married with a kid'

A married couple that met at Heathrow Airport like in a scene from a rom-com has told of how they believe their meet-cute was 'destiny'. Nana Osei-Adjei and Tremaine Osei-Adjei swapped numbers at their airport's departure lounge after striking up a conversation while they were waiting to board separate planes.

The pair ended up marrying 20 months later, and earlier this year welcomed their first child together. Company director Nana, 40, approached Tremaine, 29, while she was waiting for a flight to the US in December 2019.

He noticed she was sat alone and, after walking by several times to check no partner had joined her, decided to say hello. And they hit it off instantly.

Tremaine said: "I was travelling to America to see my brother in Tennessee and Nana was travelling to Ghana for his dad's 70th birthday and his brother's engagement.

"I was at the terminal minding my own business and eating some food when he walked past me and approached me.

"He thought I was with somebody else as he thought I had a husband or was travelling with someone.

"But after he had been observing me for a couple of minutes, he saw I was sitting by myself.

"Initially I wondered if he wanted directions but he came up to me and asked if I was okay – Afro Nation festival was happening in Ghana at the time and he asked if I was going.

"When guys approach me, I’m usually a bit reluctant so I was trying to make him think I lived in America but through the conversation, I was like 'no, I'm from Wolverhampton'.

"We were talking for two or three hours in the airport and he was travelling first-class so we went to the lounge and enjoyed the ambience with champagne.

"We got a picture of us as we were in the lounge or we never would have taken the picture.

"He's eleven years older than me so when we met, I was twenty-six and he was thirty-seven - I was asking if he had been married before.

"When he was about to board his flight, he gave me a kiss on the cheek and posted a picture of us in the airport on his WhatsApp."

The pair swapped details and while they were out of the country they continued to chat over text.

Tremaine then told her brother about the mysterious man she had met at the airport - and Nana told his aunties and family about the woman who he wanted to make his wife.

When they had both returned to the UK in January, they met up again and had their first date in the West Midlands before deciding to start a relationship together on February 20, 2020.

After dating for almost exactly a year, Nana took the plunge and proposed to Tremaine in front her family on February 21, 2021.

Tremaine, a mindset and recovery coach, said: "We came down to their house and my mum called me and asked me to get the hoover.

"I came downstairs and Nana was dressed in a suit with a bible, he pulled me aside and said he loved me, got on his knee and took the ring out.

"Our wedding was several months after on August 7, 2021.

"It was traditional so all of my family came from Wolverhampton and my brother came from America, his family came from Ghana, and we got married at the same church my mum and dad got married at in Dudley."

The couple then had their first child, Zacharia, earlier this year.

Talking about their chance encounter, Tremaine said: "I felt very safe and I knew he was somebody I could trust.

"We were just quizzing each other about marriage and religion, things you would usually ask on the fourth or fifth date.

"I felt so comfortable with him and when he was about to board his flight he gave me a kiss on the cheek.

"I sent a picture to my mum saying I'd met this cool guy at the airport and he spoke to his brother on the phone and told him 'I think I’ve met my wife'.

"For the first time in my life, I felt really safe with him."

Nana, from London, said: "I was single at the time and hadn't been in a relationship for six years.

"I know if I was five minutes early or late I would have missed her and there would have been no way of ever meeting her otherwise as it was so unlikely we would have met a second time.

"Once I got through security, I was trying to navigate my way to the lounge and then I saw Tremaine.

"I looked at her and thought 'oh wow, she is so amazing, she's beautiful, she's very attractive' and I was very smitten.

"She finished her food and got up and there I was, I introduced myself and said 'I felt obligated to come and say hello'.

"She had the look a bit of shock and we both locked eyes and she told me her name.

"I was so focused on what I was going to say next I forgot her name was actually Tremaine.

"There was something in my heart that felt if you don’t speak to her and board the plane you’re going to have a regret that you never spoke to this woman.

"We went to the lounge and the conversation we were having were as if we had known each other for weeks.

"After we finished talking we asked someone in the lounge to take a picture of the two of us.

"We both got back and got into a relationship in February 2020 and then Covid happened which was a spanner in the works as there were no visits at all.

"In conversation, we spoke about the future and in the beginning of 2021, I had the conversation with her dad for her hand in marriage.

"As I saw her I just felt there was something special" (Tremaine Osei-Adjei / SWNS)

"She wasn’t expecting it. I was nervous and told her I was going to visit my mum so she was expecting a FaceTime like every Sunday for devotion.

"She came downstairs and saw me all dressed up, I came and held her hand and professed my love to her and got down on one knee – and she gladly said yes.

"From the engagement we started to plan the wedding and had a date which was five months away – people were amazed that we planned a wedding in five months

"Three weeks before, the restrictions were lifted and we had an amazing time.

"We went on our honeymoon and found out she was pregnant and have a lovely first-born son called Zacharia."

Nana added: "When people ask how we met and I tell them they say it's like a movie.

"I never get bored of telling the story and we really think it was destiny, as soon as I saw her I just felt there was something special."
