'We messed up' - Manchester United fans question Juan Mata decision after Old Trafford farewell

Manchester United fans have been left with doubts after Juan Mata put in an impressive display against Brentford on his Old Trafford swansong.

With the Spaniard widely expected to leave the club at the end of the season, Mata was handed his first start for United since their win over Wolves on the final day of last season. Rolling back the years, the 34-year-old was one of the standout performers in a 3-0 win over the Bees.

Mata displayed calmness and composure and almost had an assist to his name after Cristiano Ronaldo scored, only for the offside flag to chalk off the 37-year-old's effort. In recent seasons, the former Chelsea attacker has found it hard to establish himself in the starting line-up and will seek new pastures in the summer.

He lasted 75 minutes before departing the field to a standing ovation as his eight-year stint in the North West nears an end. As you can see, the performance left some fans debating whether he should be allowed to leave at the end of his contract.
