A pair of Greggs-loving teens embarked on a 12-hour tour of the bakery chain - visiting a gut-busting 33 branches in a day. Sarah Redhead and Natasha Young, both 15, decided to visit all branches of the cult chain in Newcastle, Tyne and Wear, earlier this month [August 9th] as something fun to do.
Inspired by a similar feat completed by others on social media, the pair drew up a list of 33 shops and started their pastry quest, using the Metro to zip in and around the city centre. The pair even popped into Newcastle Airport to check off another store next to the arrivals hall, making time for a quick selfie stop.
Despite their many pit-stops, Sarah said she only forked out £15 on the day as she only bought snacks and water from some branches. Although the girls' friends and family initially thought they were 'mad' to go on the trip, Sarah says she has no regrets and enjoyed a 'good day out' with her mate.
Sarah, from Newcastle, Tyne and Wear, said: "I'm a big fan of Greggs. Whenever I'm in town, I'll go to Greggs. Me and Natasha saw somebody on YouTube walking to all the Greggs in their town. In Newcastle, there's a Greggs on every other street.
"It started off as a joke, but then we thought 'let's actually do it'. We just thought 'Why not try to go to them all?'."
With a checklist of each outlet to hand, the schoolgirls set out on their 15-mile jaunt at 7.45am and returned at 7.30pm. Sarah said: "We started at the Greggs on Gosforth High Street as that's the original one, and it's closest to our area.
"We used the metro to get to most of them, I was out of the house for 12 hours overall. Google maps played a massive part in helping us figure out where each of the Greggs were.
"We didn't order food from every Greggs, but we did from quite a few of them. When you're in town, there's at least ten there, so ordering food from each one would be a bit much.
"We ordered from about half of them, I'd say. I'd usually order a sausage roll or doughnuts or cookies.
"We also bought a lot of water as it was a hot day, I drank about five bottles of water. I don't think I spent that much money overall, it was only £15."
Among the 33 Greggs frequented on the day, two in particular were highlighted as being particularly good. Sarah said: "My favourite Greggs was the one at Welbeck Road. It was really well stocked and had some amazing food.
"I also really liked the one at Haddricks Mill, the staff were really friendly there. Our friends and family thought we were mad when we did it but having done it I'm glad we did it. It was a good day out."
Greggs was contacted for comment.
