'We have to wait' - Wolverhampton Wanderers suffer major injury blow ahead of Liverpool

Forward Matheus Cunha is in danger of missing Wolverhampton Wanderers' trip to Anfield next week after being stretchered off with an ankle injury against Fulham.

Cunha, who made the initial loan move to Molineux from Atletico Madrid last month and will sign permanently in the summer, was withdrawn midway through the second half after a hefty challenge, and his manager Julen Lopetegui later confirmed the Brazilian would undergo an MRI scan over the weekend to determine the seriousness of the issue.

“We have to wait until tomorrow,” said Lopetegui. after the Midlanders 1-1 draw at Craven Cottage “Tomorrow he is going to have an MRI (scan) and we have to wait for the check.”

Even a short-term lay-off means Cunha could be missing for Wolves' rescheduled trip to Anfield on Wednesday, March 1.

Lopetegui's side, who thrashed the Reds 3-0 last month, will travel to Merseyside for a Premier League fixture that was, meant to be played in September but was postponed in the wake of Queen Elizabeth II's passing on September 8.

However, before Liverpool are tasked with avenging their humbling defeat from earlier in the campaign, Jurgen Klopp's side travel to South London to face Crystal Palace on Saturday evening knowing victory will move them to within four points of the Champions League places ahead of Chelsea's visit to Tottenham on Sunday afternoon.
