'We got our station back': LBC presenter James O'Brien reacts to Nigel Farage's sudden departure

LBC presenter James O’Brien has reacted with triumph to the news of Nigel Farage’s sudden departure from the radio station.

It was announced today (11 June) that Farage would be leaving LBC with immediate effect.

In a statement, the broadcaster said: “Nigel Farage’s contract with LBC is up very shortly and, following discussions with him, Nigel is stepping down from LBC with immediate effect.

“We thank Nigel for the enormous contribution he has made to LBC and wish him well.”

After the news was announced, O’Brien tweeted: “We got our station back.”

Earlier in the week, he had posted: “Nigel Farage is a particularly pungent skidmark on the underpants of Britain. Nobody can be genuinely surprised by his latest belches of base bigotry.”

Farage’s departure follows a backlash over his comments about Black Lives Matter.

After protests erupted in the UK over the death of George Floyd in America, Farage claimed a “new form of the Taliban was born in the UK” and described Black Lives Matter as “a far-left Marxist organisation that wants to abolish the police and dismantle capitalism”.

The former Ukip and Brexit Party leader was a regular presenter on the station, and his friendship with Donald Trump helped secure LBC an interview with the US president last year.

The Nigel Farage Show was broadcast five times a week, most recently on Wednesday.
