‘We Don’t Talk About Bruno’ From ‘Encanto’ Replaces Adele At No. 1 On The Hot 100

After 10 weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100, Adele’s massive single “Easy on Me” has been replaced atop the ranking of the most-consumed songs in the U.S. once again. This time, it hasn’t been pushed off the throne by an annual holiday smash or one of the biggest pop stars in the world, but rather by the first new No. 1 hit of 2022.

“We Don’t Talk About Bruno” from the Disney animated film Encanto rises to the summit on the Hot 100 for the first time this week. The track marks the first leader for all six solo vocalists credited—Carolina Gaitan, Mauro Castillo, Adassa, Rhenzy Feliz, Diane Guerrero, Stephanie Beatriz—as well as the entire Encanto cast, which is also included as a name on the tune.

The Encanto earworm rises just one spot, as last week it improved its standing from No. 4 to No. 2. The track has only been present on the Hot 100 for five frames, and its ascent into the top 10, and then to the peak position, has been both rapid and incredibly impressive.

“We Don’t Talk About Bruno” is performing well across almost all metrics that feed into where tunes rank on the Hot 100. The song sold another 12,300 copies in the past teaching frame, according to MRC Data, making it the third-bestselling title in the country. It will also appear at No. 1 on the Streaming Songs chart when Billboard publishes it in a day or so, as it was played nearly 35 million times on platforms like Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube in the prior period. So far, it hasn’t become a proper radio hit, though that could easily be on the horizon.

Songwriter and composer Lin-Manuel Miranda earns his first No. 1 hit on the Hot 100 with the insanely catchy cut, which has easily become his highest-rising tune. The man behind the music from Moana and Hamilton is no stranger to success in the music world, but until now, a Hot 100 ruler had evaded him.

The latest Hot 100 champion is featured on the Encanto soundtrack, which has also become a huge and somewhat surprising commercial success. The full-length has already spent several weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 (where it currently reigns), and it ranks as one of the best performers of the new year. At least seven songs from the title have reached the Hot 100, with “Surface Pressure” by Jessica Darrow also recently breaking into the top 10.

“We Don’t Talk About Bruno” is the third song to replace “Easy on Me” atop the Hot 100 in its months-long tenure on the tally. After spending its first four turns in first place on the ranking, Taylor Swift’s “All Too Well (Taylor’s Version)” debuted at No. 1, beating Adele to the peak. That cut fell from the summit after one frame, and the Grammy and Oscar winner ruled for another three periods before she was toppled once again.

Mariah Carey’s "All I Want for Christmas Is You,” which now returns to the highest spot on the Hot 100 every December, made its annual trip to the top of the roster, starting in the last chart week of 2021 and holding on for a trio of periods. After the holiday came and went, “Easy on Me” began its third run in first place, which has now come to an end again, at least for the time being.
