'We could be looking at' - Michael Owen makes Jude Bellingham claim amid Liverpool interest

Former Red Michael Owen has praised Jude Bellingham and says the midfielder could be one of the 'best' players England has developed.

The 18-year-old was named in Gareth Southgate's starting line-up to face Hungary on Saturday afternoon and his form in Dortmund means he's already pushing for a place consistently. He's also attracted plenty of interest from Europe's biggest clubs.

Liverpool are among those believed to hold an interest. The Echo understands he has plenty of admirers at Anfield, but there's a belif he won't be on the move this summer given the Bundesliga club have already sold superstar Erling Haaland.

Owen, who made 290 appearances for Liverpool during his playing days, believes Bellingham offers something different to England's other midfielders and is one of the finest talents the nation has produced.

He told Channel Four ahead of the Hungary game: "I think Phillips and Rice have been sitting midfielders in some of the tougher games, but I think this lad is a little bit more adventurous, he's a better passer, can probably score more goals, talk about exciting players.

"Only 18 and he's got the physique, he's got the ability and we could be looking at a mainstay for many, many years. Not just a mainstay but one of the very best we've developed."

Trent Alexander-Arnold also secured some minutes in the UEFA Nations League clash as he played just over an hour before he made way for Reece James. Hungary won the game with a penalty kick, leaving England bottom of their group.
