We compared Edinburgh Christmas market to Glasgow and Aberdeen - and one came out cheaper

The iconic Christmas markets are coming to their end for another year. But before the trinkets and rides are packed away for another year, we compared the prices of the markets in Scotland's biggest cities.

The Edinburgh Christmas markets see flocks of residents and tourists gather and after two years of restrictions, 2022 marked the first year it was open in full. Queues were seen winding down the street with hundreds keen to get in.

Meanwhile Aberdeen and Glasgow also offer Christmas markets and we wanted to find out which one was most affordable.

Each market offers rides, an ice rink and food and drink. But with it being the capital city and a tourist attraction, we weren't surprised to see some of more expensive prices in Edinburgh.

Out of all the attractions and food and drink, the mulled wine in Edinburgh came out as the most expensive market compared to Glasgow and Aberdeen at an eye-watering £7. Meanwhile in the other two cities, the cup of the festive beverage sat at £5.

Hot chocolate is sold for £4.50 in Edinburgh and can range between £4-£5 up in the North East and Glasgow's market is selling it for £4.

Interestingly, the price of chips seemed to have people talking in Edinburgh. A portion of chips at the market would set you back £4.50 -£5.50. And while that shocked customers, Aberdeen isn't much different with portions costing between £4-£5.50. Glasgow comes out as cheapest here with a respectable £3 for a portion.

The ice rink in Edinburgh costs £13 for 40 minutes, children tickets cost £11 and a penguin stabiliser is also available for an additional £5 - skate hire is included in the price for a ticket. Those with an EH postcode can also get 20 per cent off.

For 45 minutes, Glasgow's tickets cost £15.50 for each adult, and £13 for kids under 16, and you can save £2 if you book in advance. Meanwhile Aberdeen offers a 20 minute shot for £7 for an adult or child.

As for the funfair, Edinburgh has the most, boasting of 10 rides and attractions. The prices between each city are similar with tickets in Edinburgh ranging from £3-£6. However it must be mentioned that Forth 1 Big Wheel is the most expensive with prices starting at £10.50.

In Glasgow their rides cost around £4 and Aberdeen's can range from £3-£5.
