Households across the country are facing more expensive weekly shops as inflation continues to rise.
Latest figures from the Central Statistics Office show that the cost of groceries has skyrocketed by 6.8% since last year. But for those who are bargain savvy, there are still some good deals to be got if you are willing to shop around.
We went on a hunt for a very basic weekly shop for two people and only bought things that were on special offers to see how much money we could save.

We shopped in Tesco, Dunnes Stores and Aldi and our total came to €35.49 with an amazing saving of €15.34. This is what we bought:
Breakfast
Cheerios Multigrain Cereal 540G - €2.24 on Tesco Clubcard Price
Sqeez Orange Juice Drink 1 litre - €1.00 on Tesco Clubcard Price

Dinner

There were some basic essential items like milk and eggs that were not on special offer so we could not include them in our list.
The biggest savings were made on the meat products with the three for €10 deal on meat in Tesco as well as fish fingers for half price in Dunnes Stores.
The Tesco Clubcard Price also made us significant savings especially on the Cheerios breakfast cereal which was originally priced at €4.49, down to €2.24.
Overall total savings: €15.34
