Earlier this year we bought 20 like-for-like items in two major supermarkets, Tesco and Aldi, to find out which store is the best value for money.
Six months later, we decided to buy the same twenty everyday products on our shopping list to see exactly what the price of essential items was now.
In each case, we chose essentials such as a loaf of bread, butter, pasta, minced beef, eggs, tea and more. We always went for the cheapest option available and bought store-brand products where possible to get the best value for money.

And with inflation still on the rise, we went back to the same stores to find out if there were any increases in price six months on - and the price jump was stark.
