Families are being forced to shell out more money each week as the price of groceries continues to rise.
Household shops are becoming more and more expensive, and RTE recently revealed the price of lamb chops have soared by 19.7%.
With other necessities rising in price, the Irish Mirror compared the price of 20 everyday items at Tesco and Aldi to find out which store is the best value for money.
We found that Aldi was €1.74 cheaper than its competitor.
But what about other stores? Fresh off the back of that shop, we have compared two more supermarket giants.
We bought 20 everyday items in Dunnes Stores and SuperValu to compare their prices.
Our shop included milk, spuds, bread, cheese and some fruit and veg.
In each case, we chose the cheapest option available and bought store-brand products where possible to get the best value for money.
Here's how it went:

- Short cut spaghetti in tomato sauce (410g) = €0.22
- Baked beans (420g) = €0.25

In the interests of fairness, and as seen above, we bought items as close to the same weight and quantity as possible from both stores.
