We asked Edinburgh Jollibee fans why they waited two hours from 7am for new opening

Asian fast food restaurant Jollibee opened its first Edinburgh restaurant on Princes Street this morning, with fans queuing round the block to get their hands on some of the famous dishes.

Some of the people in the queue even waited there for hours during the snowy and freezing cold conditions, just to ensure they were one of the first to step inside the venue.

Offering customers a selection of chicken, burgers and spaghetti, Jollibee have become one of the most popular fast food brands in the world, owning 1,200 venues.

We visited the restaurant this morning at 9am and were greeted by waves of hungry foodies waiting to get their fill.

Some of the people in the queue had even been there since 7am, with Jollibee giving the first 100 customers a goodie bag.

We went along to get a glimpse of the grand opening of Jollibee, as well as chat to people in the queue about why they decided to come down so early to visit the restaurant, some of the responses were interesting to say the least.

The people at the front of the queue were from the Philippines and said that the opening made them feel like they were home. They also said that Jollibee is so popular back home, that it outsells both McDonald's and KFC combined.

They said: "With the pandemic, we have not been able to return home, so this makes us feel at home.

"We're so happy to be here. The best thing about Jollibee has to be the chicken burger with the chicken breast and wings without skin."

A person wearing a huge Jollibee themed costume was also parading up and down offering photos with excited customers ahead of the grand opening.

Another couple at the front of the queue had been there for hours.

They said: "We got up at 6am this morning and have been here since about quarter to 7."

One member of the group said that he actually couldn't eat any of the food, but was there anyway.

He said: "I can't actually eat chicken, or the spaghetti dishes as I'm vegan."

Another added: "This beats all the other restaurants in Edinburgh, it's bigger than KFC, sorry but I had to say it. It's massive for Edinburgh, my favourite thing about it has to be the chicken."

One excited customer in the queue said that the food at Jollibee is surprisingly sweet, which separates it from its competitors.

They added: "The chicken burger and even the spaghetti are really sweet, sweeter than any other version I've tried, it's done with a twist and they certainly like their sweet food.

"If I had to describe the Jollibee taste, Id say it's like back home. Now that it's here, we feel like we're back home again."
