We applied for Channel 5's Eggheads and hope we have the brains for the gig

Eggheads is making a long-awaited return to Channel 5, and casting producers are looking for able teams of five to take part in the new series.

In the show, we see a team of challengers pit their wits against arguably the greatest quiz team in Britain – The Eggheads – for the chance to win a cash prize. If you manage to beat the Eggheads, you’ll win a cash prize. If they win, the prize rolls over until they can be beaten.

Teams of friends, family or colleagues can apply. Each team will consist of four team members and one standby player. So, here at Glasgow Live we thought we'd give it a go.

Read on below on how we applied for Channel 5's Eggheads.

Stage One - Sign up time

First off, a long slew of privacy notices and terms and conditions were to be read before heading into the application. In terms of criteria, all applicants must:

  • Be over the age of 18
  • Be a legal resident in the United Kingdom, and reside here at the time of applying
  • Not be currently employed by Channel 5 or 12 Yard, OR have a partner who is employed by either

Then came sign-up. We input the details of:

  • Full name
  • Email address
  • Password

Now it was onto the nitty-gritty of the process.

Stage Two - The application process

Next, applicant one had to input all the usual details of name, age, address and phone number. Other requirements included occupation, if you have ever worked for the company previously, and all your social media handles.

The process also asked if you had appeared on television before, and if so, had it been Eggheads or something else. You had to agree to not appear in another TV show before the first transmission of the Eggheads episode.

Then came the team portion of the application.

Stage Three - The fun part

After all the boring paperwork, then came the naming of the team. I went for Scottish Swots, but let us know in the comments if you think of a better one.

The questions were as followed:

  • Name of Team Captain
  • How did you come up with your team name?
  • How did your team originally meet?
  • Has your team ever won anything? If so, what have you won and how?
  • What would we be surprised to know about you?
  • If you could marry anyone from history, who would it be and why?
  • How did you hear about the show?

Filming is planned to take place from Monday, August 29 2022 till Sunday, September 11 2022. You must show availability across these dates.

At the end, all you had to do was upload a recent photo of yourself, the original applicant, and you were done. Simple as that.
