'Wayne Rooney vibes' - Man United fans liken Evan Ferguson to club legend as they make transfer plea

A growing number of Manchester United supporters are determined to see the club make a move for highly-rated Brighton & Hove Albion striker Evan Ferguson this forthcoming summer - with some even likening the forward to club legend Wayne Rooney.

The 18-year-old, who scored twice in the Seagulls' 5-0 FA Cup quarter-final win against Grimsby Town on Sunday to book a semi-final date with United next month, marked his full debut for the Republic of Ireland on Wednesday evening with a goal, helping them beat Latvia 3-2 in a friendly. He scored their second goal of the night with less 20 minutes on the clock, bundling the ball home from close quarters.

Ferguson, who is quickly establishing himself as one of the most exciting prospects in the Premier League, has been in blistering form since forcing his way into Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi's plans after the World Cup. He has scored seven goals and grabbed three assists in just 16 games this term.

The striker, who is an imposing and eye-catching figure, is developing at a rate of knots and his first international goal on his full debut has added another string to his bow. Unsurprisingly, the youngster, who has previously declared that he grew up supporting United, is being linked with a move to a plethora of big-name clubs ahead of the summer transfer window.

The likes of Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have been listed as suitors and now countless United supporters are hoping that the Reds will throw their name into the equation. United are set to be in the market for a new striker this summer and are interested in both Tottenham Hotspur ace Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen of Napoli to strengthen their forward options.

But even though United's supporters know the club needs an established, elite-level striker to lead the line, some of them believe Ferguson would be a suitable deputy, pointing to his exciting development and potential. After he scored his maiden Ireland goal, several Reds supporters took to social media to wax lyrical about the youngster and urge United to make a move for him ahead of the summer.
