Manchester United record goalscorer Wayne Rooney will coach the Major League Soccer All-Stars this summer, when they welcome Premier League leaders Arsenal to the States.
The contest takes place at DC United's Audi Field on July 19 and as head coach of the team residing at the home venue, Rooney will take charge of the All-Star side for the match. The game pits the league's best players against an overseas opponent, which this year will be the Gunners.
Rooney featured in the All-Star game as a player in 2011, assisting two goals in an eventual 4-0 win for Sir Alex Ferguson's side as Anderson, Danny Welbeck, Dimitar Berbatov, and Park Ji-Sung scored. That was the only time United have featured in the contest, with former player David Beckham and Arsenal legend Thierry Henry on the opposite side.

Speaking ahead of this year's game, Rooney said: "I’ve had a front-row seat to watch the growth and development of Major League Soccer, first as a player and now as a manager. The opportunity to lead the best our league has to offer against a top Premier League club like Arsenal will be a highlight for me personally and an unforgettable experience for our passionate fanbase here in DC."
The north London club have existing links to MLS, namely through their American owner Stan Kroenke, who also owns the Colorado Rapids. The Gunners played in the 2016 All-Star match, winning 2-1 in San Jose, California.
