Wayne Rooney wanted Harry Kane to present him with a trophy after becoming England's record scorer - because he thought the Tottenham talisman would go on to break his record.
Kane, 29, is just one goal away from equalling Rooney's tally of 53. England fans are hoping the Spurs striker can reach the landmark against France on Saturday as Gareth Southgate's side take on the defending champions in a World Cup quarter-final.
Kane was playing alongside Rooney when the former became England's record scorer during a 2-0 win over Switzerland in September 2015. Kane has recalled that famous moment and Rooney's request for him - his successor as England captain - to mark the occasion.
"It wasn’t something I was thinking about, but I was lucky enough to be playing when Wayne broke the record and I saw how much it meant to him," Kane told the Lions' Den. "After he broke it, a few months later he asked me to present a trophy to him.
"He wanted me to do it because he thought I would go on to break it. He gave me that praise and to hear that from someone like him, someone that I’ve looked up to my whole life..."
Kane was England's other scorer in that victory over Switzerland, which was just his second goal at international level. Rooney broke Bobby Charlton's 45-year record of 49 goals by scoring 50 in 107 games, while Kane's tally is 52 in 79.

Kane has established himself as one of English football's great scorers. He's hit 195 Premier League goals to rank third in the all-time list behind Rooney (208) and Alan Shearer (260). He also needs just five more goals to equal Jimmy Greaves' record of 266 for Tottenham.
The England skipper said: "When (Rooney) he said that and I went on a good run of scoring goals, I thought, 'Okay, maybe this is something I can achieve'. The years go by so quickly and the games come and go, so to be around now is something I don’t take for granted."
Kane knows the importance of becoming England's record scorer but is solely focused on beating France. Victory against the champions, who are arguably the strongest team in the tournament, would prove England are capable of going all the way in Qatar.
Kane added: "It’s hard, because when you’re in it, all you’re thinking about is the next game. All I’m thinking about is the France game and getting through that. When I’m finished, I’ll look back and be extremely proud and when ever I do break it, I’ll be extremely proud.
"It’s hard to take it in, but if I was a fan watching someone do it, I’d be so excited and be in awe of what they are about to achieve. It’s just a different feeling when you’re amongst it. I’m excited to hopefully do it. If it can be this tournament, then great."
England's potential World Cup semi-final opponents are Portugal, Switzerland, Spain and Morocco. The likes of Argentina and Brazil are in the other half of the draw.
